Jackson College’s annual Youth Baseball Camp brought energy, excitement, and a whole lot of baseball to campus this week.

Over the course of two action-packed days, 77 young athletes from across the region including Marysville, St. Clair, and Fort Wayne, Indiana came together to build their skills and deepen their love for the game.

Campers had the unique opportunity to train under the guidance of three experienced coaches, including Gary Goodwin and Hunter Teunion-Smith, as well as 10 current Jet baseball players who served as mentors and role models.

Head Coach Rick Smith, a veteran with 40 years of baseball camp experience, sees the event as a way to build lasting community connections.

"It's important to have a youth baseball camp every year so we can be visible in the community and the surrounding areas. Our Jet baseball players do really well leading and instructing at camp. They are looked up to as mentors and our players enjoy that responsibility," he said. "I even have a coach who was at a bunch of my youth baseball camps in the past now instructing at the camps."

That mentorship often comes full circle. One of this year’s coaches was once a camper himself. Proof of the lasting impact these camps can have.

Thanks to everyone who joined us. We can't wait to see you again next year!
